CASTINE YACHT CLUB
June 20, 2009
This summer’s sailing season looks to be extremely bright and exciting at the Castine Yacht Club. The club house facility is in very good shape with the ramp being freshly stained and the paving being completed to redirect rainwater away from the clubhouse. The fleet of sailboats and whalers are in very good shape as well.
Caroline McNally is running the sailing program this summer with Maggie Hynes and Rachel Pedersen assisting her. Junior instructors include Anna Weinstein, Matt Wekler, And Aaron Cyr-Mutty. I will be coordinating the junior program along with Linda Genereux
The club begins its programs the week of June 22 beginning with the Town Recreational sailing week. Colgate Racing and Mercury Racing. Our opening Meeting is on Saturday June 27th beginning with a BYOB Cocktail hour at 6:00 and a Potluck Supper at 7:00. The meeting will follow at 8:00. Please look through the summer schedule to look for upcoming events.
On Tuesdays, there will be many topical lectures and Our Castine Classic Race week will feature a Maine boat builders forum and A presentation from Gary Jobson.
Kayaking will be led once again by Victoria Grey.
Mercury Racing on Wednesday afternoons is led by Par Kettis.
Colgate Racing on Thursday afternoons will be led by Bill Light.
The Castine class racing will be mostly Saturdays, but note the August 9th Sunday race for the Eaton Cup and stew dinner. Due to the Miller wedding we moved this to Sunday.
I have asked Tom Pedersen to be vice Commodore for this year and he has accepted. I am excited to have Tom and Jeanie on board for next season. Their commitment to our junior program and to our club has been exceptional over many years.
It has been a busy off season, and now let the sailing begin.......
Cheers,
Ted Lameyer, Commodore
