The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2017-2020, this Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions (available at registration)

The Organizing Authority (OA) is the Castine Yacht Club


Competitors must have been enrolled in the CYC Junior Program at one time in 2017.

‘420’ skippers and crew are limited to Navigator enrollees.  Skippers and crews should sign up as a team.

‘Optimist’ skippers are limited to Helmsman enrollees.

‘Turnabout’ skippers and crews are limited to Apprentice enrollees.

Novice participants will crew a Mercury with an instructor as their skipper.

Entry Procedures

Sailors wishing to compete are requested to complete the entry form found on the website or in the Yacht Club office. The deadline for sign-ups is Friday, August 4 at 11:30.


Boats will be provided by the OA. Boats will be sailed as provided.

Standing rigging may not be adjusted.

420 Mainsheets may be rigged 3:1 or 4:1 only.

Turnabouts – 5

Optimists – 11

420’s - 9



1130 – Registration

1135 – Pizza and Sailors’ meeting (First warning announced at Sailors’ meeting)

Changes to the schedule will be posted on the official notice board located on the wall outside the lower pedestrian entry door to the yacht club.

Racing Area

The race area will be defined at the sailors’ meeting

Courses and Races

Based on conditions, the Race Committee will determine the courses. Course diagrams will be provided in the Sailing Instructions.

The three-minute starting system (RRS Appendix S) will be used.


The regatta will be scored in accordance with the RRS.

All races will count toward the final scores. No scores will be eliminated.


The top finishers will be awarded a prize at the end of the day.


Coaching may be provided between races as necessary.   Parents are encouraged to spectate – please let us know if you can bring a boat!

Rights to Use Name and Likeness

By participating in this event, competitors automatically grant to the OA the right, in perpetuity, to make, use and show, at their discretion, any photograph, audio and video recordings, and other reproductions of them made at the venue or on the water from the time of their arrival at the venue, until their final departure, without compensation.


Waiver of Liability

Sailing is an activity that has inherent risk of damage and injury. Competitors in this event are participating entirely at their own risk.  See RRS 4, Decision to Race.

Each competitor agrees to release the OA from any and all liability associated with such competitor’s participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law.
